Dead Simple Backups vs SiteSucker

SiteSucker is a paid Mac and iOS app that copies a website to your disk. It is friendlier than HTTrack, handles most sites without tuning, and has been around long enough to trust. If you have a Mac and want a folder of a site today, it does that.

Platform. SiteSucker runs on Mac and iOS only. Dead Simple Backups runs on our servers; you use it from any browser.

Effort. SiteSucker: install, paste the address, click download, wait, find the folder. Us: paste the address. For the monthly plan, one checkout, then nothing.

Squarespace sites. SiteSucker copies HTML and the files it can find. Script-driven layouts are not rendered, and files on the Squarespace CDN may be skipped depending on settings. We copy from the CDN by default and take a full-page screenshot in a real browser, so you have the appearance as well as the files.

Schedule. SiteSucker runs when you open it. There is no monthly run and no email. We run on the 1st of every month and email the private link.

History. With SiteSucker you keep whatever folders you kept. We keep 12 months of dated backups, downloadable from the dashboard.

Price. SiteSucker is a one-time purchase of a few dollars. We are $79 a year per site, and the one-page backup is free.

The honest summary

SiteSucker is better if you want a cheap, one-time, local copy and you will remember to run it before anything goes wrong. We are better if you want the copy to happen on a schedule, include screenshots, live outside your laptop, and be reachable by the people who need it.
