Offsite copy · Every month · Automatic

A copy of your website lands in your inbox on the 1st.

Squarespace hosts your site. It never hands you a copy of it. We save every public page as HTML with a full-page screenshot, plus the images and fonts it uses, and email you a private link.

Backup complete

Pages
Back up the whole site, every month
$79/year saves every public page, with screenshots, and emails you a private link on the 1st of each month.

The month you'll be glad you had it

Three things that happen to ordinary websites.

01

You lose access to the account

The person who built the site moves on. The login sits with an old email nobody reads, or the card on file expires and the site goes dark. Last month's copy is still in your inbox, no password needed.

02

An edit goes badly wrong

Someone deletes the wrong section and saves. Open last month's page beside the live one and put the words back.

03

You want off Squarespace

Every page, in plain HTML, ready to hand to whoever builds the next version. No export request, no waiting.

It watches, not just copies.

Four things a zip in a drawer cannot do.

01

Tells you when the site stops loading

Once a day we load your homepage. If it fails twice, a minute apart, you get one email with your latest backup, and one more when it is back.

02

Shows what changed

Every backup is compared with the one before: pages added, removed, and edited, listed in the email. You see edits you did not make.

03

Backs up when you ask

About to redesign, or hand the site to someone? One click on your dashboard makes a fresh copy first. Once a day per site.

04

Keeps every page as plain text

Next to the HTML and screenshots, a Markdown file per page: headings, paragraphs, links, and image descriptions, ready to paste into whatever comes next.

Your files, not ours

Backups are plain HTML, JPEG, and font files in ordinary folders, with the pages wired to their own images and stylesheets. Double-click and they open in any browser, on any computer, with no software from us. Download the lot whenever you like.

What we can see

We never ask for your Squarespace password. We read the public pages a visitor would see, and nothing else: no orders, no customer data, no drafts. You can delete any backup permanently, whenever you want.

Leave whenever

Cancel from one button in your account. No email, no retention call. Full refund inside 30 days, and your backups stay downloadable for another 30 after you go.

Questions people ask before signing up

Short answers. If yours isn't here, email us and a person replies.

hello@deadsimplebackups.com
How do you back it up without my password?
The same way a visitor does. We load your public pages and save what comes back: the HTML, a full-page screenshot of each page, the images, stylesheets, and fonts it uses, and a note of your template and colors. There's nothing to connect and no login to hand over, so there's nothing of yours for us to lose.
What exactly is in a backup?
A zip with one HTML file per public page, a full-page screenshot of each, a plain-text copy of every page for pasting elsewhere, the images, stylesheets, and fonts the pages use (with the HTML pointed at the local copies, so it opens offline), a short report of your template and colors, and a list of every URL we saved. Every public page, however many there are, up to 4 GB per backup.
When does it run?
On the 1st of every month, automatically. Your first backup starts right after checkout, and the private link usually lands within a few minutes.
Can I restore my site in one click?
No tool can, because Squarespace has nothing to import it into. What you get is a complete copy: open it in a browser, copy the words back, or hand the folder to whoever rebuilds the site.
Does it work on sites that aren't Squarespace?
Yes. Any public website works the same way, and we have pages for Wix, GoDaddy, Showit, and restaurant sites. Squarespace 7.0 and 7.1 are what we know best.
I build sites for clients. Is there a designer program?
Yes, and it is one thing: designers get their own site backed up free, plus a code that takes half off a client's first year. Use it to refer clients, or to resell backups inside your maintenance package. See the designer page.
Will you tell me if my site goes down?
Yes. Once a day we load your homepage. If it fails twice, a minute apart, you get one email with a link to your latest backup, and one more when the site is loading again. Lock pages and one slow day do not count.
Can I make a backup before a big change?
Yes. Every site on your dashboard has a "Back up now" button, once a day per site. The copy lands in a few minutes and shows what changed since the previous one.
How long do you keep backups?
Twelve months. Each month's backup stays in your account for a year, and you can open or download any of them at any time. If you cancel, they stay downloadable for 30 days after your paid period ends.
What happens if I cancel?
Backups stop at the end of your billing period. Ask inside 30 days and you get a full refund. Your existing backups stay downloadable for 30 days after you go.
