Can I import a backup into Squarespace?
No. Squarespace has no import for HTML pages, from us or from anyone. A backup is the material for rebuilding a page or a site by hand, and a record of what was there.
Squarespace's import tools accept content from a few other platforms and from their own export format. They do not accept a folder of HTML files, images, and screenshots, which is what any true copy of a live site is.
That is not a limitation of this service in particular. No backup tool can push HTML back into Squarespace, because Squarespace does not offer that door. Anyone who tells you otherwise is describing a manual rebuild.
What a backup is good for:
- Putting back text, images, and structure after a bad edit, with the old page open beside the editor.
- Handing a developer a complete copy to rebuild the site on Squarespace or anywhere else.
- Proving what the site said on a given date.
- Keeping the site after you cancel Squarespace, so nothing is lost even though it is no longer online.
For the rebuild steps, see How do I restore a page from a backup?
Squarespace doesn't give you a copy of your site. We do: every public page, full-page screenshots, images and fonts, in your inbox on the 1st.
