How do I restore a page from a backup?
Open the page's HTML file or its screenshot from the backup, then rebuild the page in Squarespace by copying the text and re-uploading the images. There is no one-click restore into Squarespace.
Squarespace does not accept an HTML file as a page, so restoring means rebuilding the page with the backup open beside you. It goes faster than it sounds.
- Unzip the backup and open screenshots/ to find the page. The screenshot shows the layout and the order of sections at a glance.
- Open the same page from html/ in a browser. Select the text you need and paste it into the Squarespace editor.
- Images are in assets/. The file names start with a short code followed by the original name, so
a1b2c3d4e5-hero.jpgishero.jpg. Upload the ones you need. - Check the theme report if fonts or colors changed. It lists the fonts and hex codes the page used.
For a single deleted section this takes a few minutes. For a whole page, expect twenty to thirty minutes.
If the page was deleted recently, check Squarespace's own trash first. Deleted pages can be recovered from the Pages panel for 30 days. See How to restore a deleted Squarespace page.
Squarespace doesn't give you a copy of your site. We do: every public page, full-page screenshots, images and fonts, in your inbox on the 1st.
