How do I find old text or an old image in a backup?

Open the html folder and search the page files for a phrase, or open the assets folder and sort by name. Each backup is a snapshot of one month, so open the month you need.

Text. Unzip the backup and open the page from html/ in a browser, then use the browser's find (Ctrl+F or Cmd+F). To search every page at once, open the html folder in a text editor such as VS Code and use its search across files. Squarespace pages carry a fair amount of markup, so search for a distinctive phrase rather than a single word.

Images. They are in assets/, named with a short code followed by the original file name. Sort by name and look for the original name, or open the page's HTML and follow the link from the place the image appeared. Hero images are usually the largest files.

Which month. Each backup is one month's snapshot. Your dashboard lists them by date; open the one from before the change you want to undo. We keep 12 months, so you can go back about a year.

Squarespace doesn't give you a copy of your site. We do: every public page, full-page screenshots, images and fonts, in your inbox on the 1st.
