How do I open a backup?

Download the zip from your private link, unzip it, and open any file in the html folder with a normal browser. The pages open offline, with their images and fonts.

1. Open the private link from the monthly email, or open your dashboard and click the backup you want.
2. Click Download. You get a zip named after the site and the date.
3. Unzip it. On a Mac, double-click it. On Windows, right-click and choose Extract All.
4. Open the html folder and double-click index.html, or any other page. It opens in your browser without an internet connection, with the images, styles, and fonts that were copied into the assets folder.
5. Open the screenshots folder to see each page as one tall image.

The pages look the way they looked on the day of the backup. Things that need Squarespace's servers, such as forms, checkout, and search, will not work inside a copy. That is expected: a backup is a record, not a live site.
