What Showit keeps, and what it does not

Showit is a design canvas: you place every element by hand, for desktop and for mobile. That freedom is why designers love it, and it is also why there is nothing to export. At the time of writing Showit has no site export, and the design does not translate into another builder's page format.

Showit's blog runs on WordPress underneath, so blog posts can be exported the way WordPress posts can. The designed pages cannot.

  • When a subscription ends, the site goes offline. Showit keeps the account for a while so you can reactivate, but there is no public copy in the meantime.
  • Designs live in the account. If the designer who built the site holds the login, or the account is lost, so is every page.
  • The look is the value. On Showit more than any other builder, a screenshot of each page as it renders is worth as much as the HTML, because the layout is the design.

A monthly copy of every public page, with a full-page screenshot of each rendered in a real browser, stored outside Showit, keeps both the words and the design.

The month you'll be glad you had it

Three things that happen to ordinary websites.

01

The account belongs to someone else

Your designer built it under their Showit account and moved on. You cannot edit it, and if their plan ends, it is gone. Last month's copy is still in your inbox, no login needed.

02

An edit goes badly wrong

A canvas element gets dragged, resized, or deleted on the mobile layout and published. The screenshot from last month shows exactly where everything was.

03

You want off Showit

Every page as HTML and a full-page screenshot, plus the images and fonts, ready for whoever rebuilds it on Squarespace, Webflow, or WordPress. Blog posts export from WordPress; the pages come from the backup.

It watches, not just copies.

Four things a zip in a drawer cannot do.

01

Tells you when the site stops loading

Once a day we load your homepage. If it fails twice, a minute apart, you get one email with your latest backup, and one more when it is back.

02

Shows what changed

Every backup is compared with the one before: pages added, removed, and edited, listed in the email. You see edits you did not make.

03

Backs up when you ask

About to redesign, or hand the site to someone? One click on your dashboard makes a fresh copy first. Once a day per site.

04

Keeps every page as plain text

Next to the HTML and screenshots, a Markdown file per page: headings, paragraphs, links, and image descriptions, ready to paste into whatever comes next.

Your files, not ours

Backups are plain HTML, JPEG, and font files in ordinary folders, with the pages wired to their own images and stylesheets. Double-click and they open in any browser, on any computer, with no software from us. Download the lot whenever you like.

What we can see

We never ask for your Showit password. We read the public pages a visitor would see, and nothing else: no orders, no customer data, no drafts. You can delete any backup permanently, whenever you want.

Leave whenever

Cancel from one button in your account. No email, no retention call. Full refund inside 30 days, and your backups stay downloadable for another 30 after you go.

Questions people ask before signing up

Short answers. If yours isn't here, email us and a person replies.

hello@deadsimplebackups.com
Does this need my Showit login?
No. We read your public pages the way a visitor does. There is nothing to log in to and no password to store.
Does the backup capture the design, or just the text?
Both. Each page is saved as HTML with its images, styles, and fonts, and a real browser renders it top to bottom for a full-page screenshot. On Showit the screenshot is the part designers open first.
Are Showit blog posts included?
The public blog pages are backed up like any other page. Because the Showit blog runs on WordPress, you can also export posts from there if you migrate.
Can I import a backup back into Showit?
No. Showit has no import. The backup is a complete reference for rebuilding, page by page, with the screenshot and the text beside the canvas.
Does it work on the mobile layout too?
The screenshot is taken at desktop width, 1280 pixels. The HTML and the assets are the same files the mobile layout uses.
How long do you keep backups?
Twelve months, and the newest one is never dropped. If you cancel, everything stays downloadable for 30 days after your paid period ends.
