What GoDaddy Website Builder keeps, and what it does not

GoDaddy's Website Builder, the product sold as Websites + Marketing, does not export a site. At the time of writing there is no download of your pages, design, or images, and no way to move the site to another host. The site exists as long as the plan is paid, on GoDaddy's servers, and nowhere else.

That is fine until one of three things happens: the plan lapses and the site goes offline, the account is lost to a former employee or designer, or you decide to move to another builder and discover there is nothing to move.

Your domain is separate. Many GoDaddy Website Builder sites use a GoDaddy domain, which keeps working after the site plan ends. The pages do not.
The editor has undo, not history. There is no version you can go back to after you have published and closed the editor.
Photos you uploaded are served at web size. The largest size the site shows is the largest anyone can get back.

A monthly copy of every public page, stored outside GoDaddy, gives you the pages, the look, and the images to rebuild anywhere, and it needs no login.

Does this need my GoDaddy login?

No. We read the public pages the way a visitor does. Nothing to log in to, no password stored anywhere.

Can GoDaddy Website Builder export my site?

Not at the time of writing. There is no download of pages, design, or images. A crawl of the public pages is the only way to get a copy, which is what this is.

Which pages are included?

Every public page reachable through your sitemap and your site's own links, however many there are: the homepage, services, about, blog posts, and product pages. Checkout and anything behind a login are not visible to visitors, so they are not included.

Can I put a backup back into GoDaddy?

No. GoDaddy has no import for pages. The backup is the material to rebuild from, on GoDaddy or anywhere else, with the screenshot and the text beside you.

I also have GoDaddy hosting with WordPress. Does this work for that?

Yes. Any public website works. A WordPress site also has plugin-based backups that can restore in place, which this does not replace; it is the copy that stays useful after you leave.

How long do you keep backups?

Twelve months, and the newest one is never dropped. If you cancel, everything stays downloadable for 30 days after your paid period ends.
