Can You Export a Showit Site?
No. At the time of writing, Showit does not export a site. The designed pages exist only inside Showit, and no other builder can read them. The one exception is the blog: Showit blogs run on WordPress, so blog posts can be exported with WordPress's own export.
What comes out of Showit
- Blog posts, from the WordPress dashboard behind your Showit blog, in the standard WordPress export format.
- Media you uploaded, if you still have access to the media library.
- The public pages, by copying what visitors see: HTML, images, fonts, and screenshots.
Why the copy needs screenshots
Showit pages are positioned by hand on a canvas. The HTML that reaches visitors is a rendering of that canvas, and it rarely looks right when opened as a file outside Showit. A full-page screenshot of each page, taken in a real browser, is the reliable record of the design. Dead Simple Backups takes one for every page, along with the HTML and assets, every month.
Moving a Showit site to another platform
- Take a complete copy of the public site while it is live: HTML, assets, and full-page screenshots of every page.
- Export blog posts from WordPress and import them into the new platform.
- Rebuild each page on the new platform with its screenshot open beside the editor. Designers rebuild Showit pages on Squarespace or Webflow this way as a matter of routine.
- Set up redirects and move the domain last.
Keep the Showit subscription until the new site is live. After it ends, there is nothing to copy.
Q: Can I move my Showit site to Squarespace or Webflow?
By rebuilding it from a copy. There is no importer on either side. Blog posts move through the WordPress export.
Q: Does Showit let me download my site's images?
From the media library while you have access, at original size. A crawl of the public pages gets them at the sizes the site serves.
